Awards & Accolades

Toni Simmons has conducted creative dramatic and movement workshops in schools, community centers, churches, and parks and has worked with teachers helping them to corporate the arts into their curricula. Toni also served as a storyteller in residence for the Quachita Paris and Monroe City Schools for the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council, funded by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts. Her experiences include:

  • Over Twenty years as a storyteller
  • Four years Drama Teacher – Hockaday School, Dallas, Texas
  • Four years on the Texas Commission on the Arts as a Touring Artist
  • Eleven years with Black Storytellers Alliance (formerly Black Theatre Alliance), Minneapolis, MN
  • Illusion Theatre “Touch” Touring Show, Minneapolis, MN
  • 2 years as Artist in Residence Monroe city and Quachita Parish Schools
  • Little Theatre of Monroe

Designated as an American Masterpiece by the National Endowment for the Arts Parent Council Award

She has been featured as a storyteller at the Magnolia Storytelling Festival in Natchez, Mississippi, the Strawberry Storytelling Festival in Hammond, LA., the Corn Island Storytelling Festival in Louisville, Kentucky, the Border book Festival, Las Cruces, NM., Black Storytelling Festival in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the National Black Storytelling Festival and the Haunting in the Hills Storytelling Festival in Knoxville Tennessee.
